Participant, Caregiver, and Family Guest Code of Conduct
At DREAM Adaptive Recreation, we believe that a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere helps everyone thrive. Our Code of Conduct is designed to support a positive experience for all participants, family members, and caregivers throughout the year. By fostering mutual respect and safety, we can ensure that everyone enjoys the full benefits of our programs. All participants, caregivers, and family guests are asked to read, sign, and follow this Code of Conduct annually as part of their involvement in DREAM programming, which includes but is not limited to: Alpine Ski & Ride, Nordic Ski, Mountain Biking, Paved Path Cycling, Fishing, Paddle Boarding/Kayaking, Motorized Watersports, and Military/Veteran specific activities. For the purposes of this Code of Conduct, the term “participant” includes all individuals engaging in DREAM programs, including registered participants, caregivers, and family guests.
To help ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, all participants engaging in DREAM programming are expected to:
-
Treat others with respect. All participants must show kindness and consideration to fellow participants, volunteers, and staff. Harassment of any kind is strictly prohibited. This includes behaviors that interfere with safe participation in the program or create an offensive environment—such as obscene gestures, inappropriate physical contact, use of profanity, or circulation of materials that are derogatory to anyone’s gender, race, color, religion, creed, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, political beliefs, appearance, or ethnicity.
-
Uphold a zero-tolerance policy for abuse. Physical, verbal, sexual, or mental abuse—or neglect of any kind—will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.
-
Be in control. Participants are responsible for maintaining control of their body and equipment at all times, throughout the program and activities. This includes the ability to stop or avoid people or objects and follow all posted signs and warnings for closed areas.
-
Report safety concerns promptly. Any situation that may endanger the health, safety, or well-being of anyone involved—yourself, other participants, staff, volunteers, or guests—must be reported to a DREAM Program Staff member or the Executive Director within 24 hours.
-
Maintain clear judgment. To ensure safety for yourself and others, participants may not use substances that impair physical or mental ability before or during program activities.
-
Abstain from tobacco, alcohol, and drug use. Smoking, vaping, or use of any tobacco products is not permitted at DREAM programs or events. The use or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited.
-
Follow the law. Participants must comply with all laws relevant to their participation, including those regarding drugs, alcohol, and providing substances to others, especially minors.
-
Secure personal belongings. Keep personal effects including valuables and medications secured. DREAM Adaptive Recreation is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
-
Respect property and environment. Keep all event areas neat and clean and be respectful of other people’s property.
-
Honor your commitment and Follow DREAM Policy. Arrive on time and attend all programs for which you are registered. If you anticipate being late, need to leave early, or are unable to attend, notify the Program Manager or Coordinator in accordance with our Cancellation Policy.
-
Meet program eligibility requirements. All participants must meet the DREAM essential eligibility criteria (EEC) for the program they are participating in. The EEC can be found on the DREAM website.
-
Speak up. If you observe someone not following the Code of Conduct, please let a DREAM staff member know immediately.
Accountability
Failure to comply with the expectations and requirements established in this document may result in disciplinary action such as the participant, caregiver, or family guest being dismissed from the program or activity, and may jeopardize future participation. Any travel expenses related to early dismissal will be the participant’s responsibility (i.e. mileage, airfare, stipend, etc.).
