Volunteer Contract 2023-2024

Volunteers are a vital part of the BOEC. Without volunteers, the BOEC could not operate at its current capacity. The following policies and procedures will ensure an enjoyable experience for students and a productive working environment for volunteers and staff.

BOEC volunteers must maintain a current file. Therefore, each year a new waiver must be signed and emergency phone numbers updated. Volunteers at the BOEC are not covered under Worker’s Compensation Insurance for accidents. The BOEC will not accept any responsibility or accrue any cost for injuries or medical conditions that arise while volunteering for the BOEC. Therefore, all volunteers must carry current health insurance throughout their time of service with the BOEC.

BOEC strictly prohibits the use of any alcoholic beverages, marijuana, and/or illegal drugs of any kind while working for the center. Any volunteer who reports to work while “IMPAIRED,” defined as being unable to perform work in a safe and productive manner; being in a physical or mental condition which creates a risk to the participant, other volunteers, the public, or BOEC property, will be dismissed. Also, any behavior or conduct deemed inappropriate by BOEC staff is grounds for dismissal.  If, as a volunteer, you witness any inappropriate behavior, please inform the Program Director or complete the BOEC Sport Protection Reporting form.

BOEC maintains the right to do a background check on any active volunteers. New Volunteers must go through the background check process before participating in any BOEC programming. Returning Volunteers are required to go through the background check process every 2 years.

Winter Volunteer Program - Specific Requirements

New Volunteers must complete three full-days of clinics (the equivalent of six half-day clinics) including the Dryland Training & Disability Awareness Clinics before they begin teaching lessons. Returning Volunteers Clinics are offered throughout the months of November and December at both Breckenridge and Keystone Resorts. Volunteers must register for sessions in advance, as there must be four volunteers per clinic for the session to run. Because some volunteers join the program mid-season, they will complete the equivalent training in shadow days.

Scheduling days to volunteer should be done at least 48 hours in advance through the BOEC staff. Volunteers are expected to sign up on the volunteer sign up form, contact the BOEC Ski Office at 970-453-5633 or volunteer@boec.org to schedule volunteer days. We encourage all volunteers to schedule days as far in advance as possible and set schedules are greatly appreciated. If you are unable to volunteer on the day you have scheduled, you must call the BOEC ski office  at least 48 hours in advance.

Volunteers operating under the season pass agreement are expected to volunteer three days a month for the entire winter season. We suggest those volunteers not operating under the pass agreement volunteer 10 days, at any point, over the course of the season. Training must be completed before a season pass will be issued.

Volunteers will need to provide their own skis, boots, poles and helmet. Equipment should be modern, in good working condition, and skis should be able to pass a binding release test.  Due to limited space in the ski office, volunteers must take their personal gear home each day. The BOEC is not responsible for lost or damaged equipment while volunteering at the BOEC.
